Now that my children have grown and left home my horses are my kids. I bought my first mini in 1994 as I had given up riding and my husband suggested that as I no longer ride, I could run more horses to the acer if I had minis. He was full of bright ideas. I joined a miniature horse club and have had so much fun since then. I bought a second filly in 1995, and a stallion in 1996. I soon learned that there was so much I could do with my little horses, and started to show them. A couple of my finest moments are "second best all rounder" at a large 2 day show and "foal of the year" for our local club.
I have loved horses all my life and not been without at least one in life since I was 9 years old. I spent my childhood on the back of a horse. I was involved in pony club until I got married. As an adult I have instructed pony club and went on to try western riding. My children were not interested in riding which was a shame. I hope to have grandchildren who will love to visit their nana to play with the minis one day.
My aim now is to breed and show miniature horses who have temperaments that anyone can handle, and which will excel in every area of the show world. Not only will they win in halter but they will do well in all the activities as well. Starting with sound good looking horses, adding exceptional movement, colour and an ease of handling results in a horse to suit everyone.
I have an interest in appaloosas from my western riding days, so I have 2 appaloosa mares, pintos add interest a horse, so I have 2 pinto mares. My stallion adds pedigree, big movement, soundness, incredible temperament, and reduces size.
With NZMHA (New Zealand Miniature Horse Ass.) and our local miniature horse club I found so much I can do with my horses, so they don't just sit in the paddock and look pretty. All but one of my horses have been shown at some stage of their lives. Even after time out to have a foal I bring them back to showing. They never have a dull moment in their lives. The one that has not been shown has been broken in to ride. I have met some great people with whom I have a lot of fun with. Its not all serious. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I loose, but we all celebrate together no matter how it goes. The Northland Miniature Horse club has commitment to new members, and does all it can to encourage new owners to get involved at what ever level suits them. Miniature horses are more then just ornaments in the paddock, They are GREAT FUN.
